Does Jesus Still Heal Today?
There are many people, even in Christianity, who believe that healing stopped with the disciples of Jesus. They believe that healing was for the ministry of Christ and then when Christ left the Earth, He gave this power to His disciples. They believe that after the original twelve disciples all died, then healing died too.
I consider myself one of Jesus’ disciples, and if you have accepted Him as your Savior, then you too are one of His disciples. Therefore, healing continues today through His disciples. Healing continues today through me and through you.

What About Sickness?
I have heard the argument from some people, that when Jesus died on the cross that He was supposed to have taken all sickness and disease on Himself so that we would not have to suffer.
This is true, He did exactly that. However, this does not mean that people do not still get sick and need healing.
Why? How? If Jesus took sickness, then doesn’t it mean that we don’t have to be sick and suffer. It is true that we don’t have to be sick; however, many people have open doors in their lives that have allowed sickness to enter. One of those open doors, is sin.
Jesus showed us this in the Bible when He healed the crippled man.
“Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you." John 5:14 NIV
So, we can see from this verse that sin can sometimes be the cause of, or open the door to sickness in our lives. Some may say, but our sins have been forgiven, so if our sins are forgiven, aren’t the effects of sin on our life also forgiven?
Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but it did not stop people from sinning. What it did, however, was provide an avenue for sins to be forgiven. Sins are forgiven through repentance, which is turning from sinful action and not doing it anymore. Failure to turn from the sin, could bring the consequences of that sin back on your life.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NIV
The wages of sin is death—death is the end result of sickness and disease. It is the consequence of sin. So much of the sickness and disease we have in the world today, is the result of sin.
It may be personal sin, or it may the sins of the forefathers’ from generations before. The Bible tells us that certain sins (sicknesses) can be passed down through many generations.
“Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation." Exodus 34:7b NIV
This is why when I pray for people to be healed, I often am guided by the Holy Spirit to lead them in a prayer of repentance for their sins as well as a prayer to break generational curses brought into their family line from the sins of their fathers and their father’s fathers.
Just like the cross paved the way for sins to be forgiven, but did not stop people from sinning and potentially having to suffer the consequences of their unrepentant sins, the same is true for sickness and disease.
Jesus died on the cross so that we would not have to be sick and suffer with disease, but it does not stop people from getting sick and having disease. What Jesus did, was provide access to healing through His blood on the cross.

Healing Is for Today
When people get sick, healing is still available today through the power of Jesus. I pray for people every day and see them healed miraculously of physical conditions that they have struggled or suffered with for years.
As believers we have the power to lay hands on the sick and see them recover.
“They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed." Mark 16:18 NLT
Part of the call of God on my life is not only to pray for the sick and to see them healed, but to train others how to do the same. Healing is not only in the hands of those in the five-fold ministry—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—it is in the hands of every single person who believes in Jesus and has accepted Him as Savior.
